2006 final record: 8-5-1
Eliminated in round 2 of the Playoffs.
Next up: The Draft (9/8/07)
We tried, but came up short again--losing 59-51 to Total Panache in the semi-finals. Similar to last year, our 51 points were the second highest points total scored out of all the playoff teams.
What happened? In a nutshell, it was a combination of multiple injuries and a lack of production/depth. Between injuries and suspensions, 7 out of our 8 keepers spent some time on the Injured Reserve list at one time or another during the season. Sadly, this is almost an exact carbon-copy of the 2005 season, with similar results.
We tried shaking up things a lot this year (a couple of new owners in the league this year helped) by making some major deals, but in retrospect, they may of hurt us more this year but should help in the long run.
First major deal was the trade of Marvin Harrison. He was traded in week 6 to The Ultimate Warriors (new owner) for Jamal Lewis in an effort to beef up our running game and give Brian Westbrook some help. At the time, Marvin hadn't been doing much and WR was still a strength of ours. Needless to say, Jamal didn't do much for the season and Marvin went ballistic towards the end.
By week seven, we were already on our 3rd QB having claimed Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) after putting our keeper D. Culpepper (MIA) on I.R. and watching Bledsoe (DAL) be benched for the season. While Jamal didn't do much for the season, it really wasn't our problem as we turned around and traded him, along with Randy Moss (OAK), this week to The RagTags for Carnell Williams (RB-TB) and Plaxico Burress (WR-NYG.) We also had to include a 3rd round pick for 2007. Our 2nd blockbuster trade of the season still needs time to evaluate. Moss has been a bust since going to Oakland and Jamal didn't appeal to us much. Plaxico was a nice contributor to The G-String this season (finishing 8th among all WRs in scoring for the league) but Carnell never got it going and was a mere shadow of his 2005 performance. We are hoping that he gets it straightened out in 2007 and beyond.
Picks that clicked: Brandon Jacobs, RB, NYG (round 2) Greg Jennings, WR, GB (round 3) Free Agent pickup Ben Roethlisberger (QB-PIT), Chris Henry (WR-CIN) and Nate Kaeding (K-SD) were nice finds and major contributors during the year.
The off season has produced only 2 trades so far (which in itself is amazing compared to previous years.) We moved Paxico Burress (WR-NYG) for a 4th round pick in the upcoming draft. With the new keeper requirements this year (only 6 keepers instead of 8) we could not figure out a way to retain him. Plus, the offer for him was presented to us! A rarity in itself...
Next update should be sometime after the HFFL cut downs/NFL draft.
